D'Var Torah

Nitzavim-Vayelech, by Rabbi Vernon Kurtz, JFNA Rabbinic Cabinet

Words of Wisdom

If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am for myself only, what am I? And if not now, when?

Heading

For more than 25 years, it has been a tradition for the Chair of the Board and General Campaign Chair of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation to host a year-end “Thank You Luncheon” for the staff. In 2006, this custom was expanded to include the presentation of two staff recognition awards — the Mensch Award and the Myron J. Brodie Award for Professional Excellence.

On June 7, outgoing Chair of the Board William Lehman, outgoing General Campaign Chair Barbara Black Goldfarb and incoming General Campaign Chair Brian Bilzin were on hand to host the luncheon and present the awards, together with President & CEO Jacob Solomon and Executive Vice President Emeritus Myron J. “Mike” Brodie.

Mensch Award

The recipient of the 2010 Mensch Award was Soiby Seidner, Program Coordinator for Federation’s International Department. Soiby, a native of Peru, served as a volunteer for many years before joining the Federation staff in February 2008.

“Soiby’s effort and hard work consistently go above and beyond what is expected,” noted Jacob Solomon. “She always helps her fellow staff members with kindness, generosity and respect.”

Myron J. Brodie Award
for Professional Excellence

Dahlia Bendavid, Director of Federation’s Israel and Overseas Department and a Federation employee for seven years, has received the 2010 Myron J. Brodie Award for Professional Excellence. It is presented annually by Federation to an employee who exemplifies the highest standards of Jewish communal service.

Dahlia previously was Federation’s Assistant Director of Human Resources Development.

On behalf of all those who have been helped through the work of these highly dedicated individuals, Federation extends its appreciation and congratulations.
